Introduction: Vaginismus as a sexual dysfunction and having devastating consequences needs effective therapeutic approaches. Therefore, this study reports the treatment of 9 cases of vaginismus by using biofeedback and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Material and Methods: In this study, at first the patients were diagnosed with vaginismus according to their history and reaction during the examination. Treatment was combination of training anatomy and the genitals function, training sexual behavior, the correction of any inaccurate information and cognition about the sexual activity, behavioral practices, training relaxation technique and biofeedback for help to voluntary control and increase relaxation of pelvic floor muscles.
Results: After an average of 4-5 weeks, all the 9 patients completed the treatment program and were able to have satisfactory intercourse. Pregnancy occurred in one of the patients immediately after the treatment and in two other patients, one with interval of two months and another three months after completion of the treatment.
Conclusion: Therefore, biofeedback with cognitive-behavioral therapy is effective and short-term treatments for patients with vaginismus.
