Abstract

Introduction: Considering the alarming increase in the statistics of infidelity and divorce, the present study was conducted with the aim of comparing the effect of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on the anger and forgiveness of women affected by marital infidelity.
Materials and Methods: This study used a semi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test and a control group. The participants were selected from among women affected by marital infidelity in Tabriz in 1401. 45 participants were selected by targeted sampling and assigned to three groups (15 in each group). The experimental groups received treatment specific to their group in 8 sessions. The measurement tools included Rye's Forgiveness Questionnaire and Novaco's Anger Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance and Bonferroni post hoc test.
Results: The results of both treatments, compared to the control group, indicated a significant difference between the two experimental groups and the control group in the scores after the intervention in forgiveness (P=0.001, F=60.314) and anger (P=0.001, F=202.785). Also, the results showed that the effect of treatments on forgiveness and anger of women affected by marital infidelity at the post-test stage is not statistically significant (P>0.05).
Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that MBCT and ACT can be effective on the effects caused by infidelity in affected women and lead to an increase in forgiveness and a decrease in anger. However, the two treatments did not differ significantly in their effects.
