Abstract

Introduction: Uterine relaxations has an important role in reducing the preterm parturition. In the present study the cumulative effect of the aqueous extract of mangifera indica seed on the frequency, strength and basic smooth uterine muscle contractility of virgin rats were studied.
Materials & Methods: This experimental study was conducted on 12 strips taken from the middle part of the uterine of rats (Sprague Dawley 200-250 g), perfused in an organ bath system containing the carbogen-Tyrode solution under the continuous 1g tension. Then the contractions were recorded isometrically. During the experiments the cumulative effect of the aqueous extract of of mangifera indica seed (0.0025- 3000 µg/ml) on the frequency, strength and basal activity of rat uterine muscle was studied. The data were analyzed using the repeated measure and two way ANOVA tests at the significance level of p
