Abstract
Introduction: Psychological interventions play an important role in the prevention and treatment of addiction. This research was done with the purpose of investigating the efficacy of well-being therapy on three indexes of anxiety, stress and depression.
Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, from August to January, 2014, thirty men using methamphetamine under supervision of Verdich Therapeutic-Community Center were voluntarily selected. They were then screened based on the diagnostic criteria for anxiety, stress and depression, and finally twenty-four patients were included and randomly assigned into two groups of twelve ,experiment and control group. The experimental group received 12 weekly sessions of well-being each lasting one hour. Also, addiction urine test was taken two times per week with cutoff value 300 Ng/ml. The data were analyzed by Chi-Square and t-tests.
Results: Data analysis showed that well-being therapy had a significant effect on anxiety (20.84±2.51 for exp group vs 24.32±2.13 for control group, p<0.01). However, this intervention had no significant effect on stress and depression indexes (p>0.05).
Conclusion: The findings of this study may have an optimistic outlook on the efficacy of therapeutic interventions on psycho-cognitive impairments.
