Comparison of the Effect of cognitive-behavioral therapy with Compassion-Focused Therapy on Impulsivity of Women on the Verge of Divorce

Abstract
Introduction: Impulsivity, coupled with potentially damaging long-term effects, necessitates the need to provide psychological interventions for women on the verge of divorce. Therefore, the present study is conducted to compare the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral and compassion-focused therapies on women's impulsivity.
Materials and Methods: The research was interventional pre-test post-test control group design, which was done through a random assignment and a three-month follow-up. The sample was selected by convenient sampling. Forty-five women on the verge of divorce were assigned to two experimental and one control groups. The research tool included Barrett Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11). Data were analyzed through the mutual variance analysis method by the repeated measurements.
Results: The mean of impulsivity variable in different stages showed a significant difference before, after, and three months after intervention (p<0.001). In the post-intervention stages, although the mean score of impulsivity decreased in all three groups, the rate of reduction in two intervention groups was significantly higher than the control group.
Conclusion: The results showed that cognitive-behavioral therapy and compassion-focused therapy could probably reduce impulsivity caused by divorce, the latter being more efficient. It seems that the results of the research provide empirical evidence in reducing impulsivity for both therapie
