English

Introduction: Migraine, one of the leading causes of disability worldwide, affects approximately 15% of the world's population and is associated with sensory hypersensitivity and reduced quality of life. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of emotional release on pain acceptance and distress tolerance in people with migraine
Materials and Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population was all people with a military history suffering from migraine who referred to counseling centers in Mashhad in 2024, totaling 150 people. 30 people were selected by random sampling method and placed in the experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). The data collection tools included the Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire (McCracken et al., 2004) and Distress Tolerance Questionnaire (Simons & Gaher, 2005). The experimental group underwent emotional release technique sessions (6 sessions of 45 minutes). No intervention was performed for the control group. The data were analyzed using a multivariate analysis of covariance statistical test
Results: The mean and standard deviation of the distress tolerance score of the experimental group in the pretest were 37.80±3.58 and in the posttest were 59.80±3.09, showing a significant difference. The mean and standard deviation of the pain acceptance score of the experimental group in the pretest were 83.33±10.25 and in the posttest were 93.26±16.11, also indicating a significant difference (p<0.05).
Conclusion: It is suggested that the emotional release technique be used as an effective and short-term method to increase pain acceptance and distress tolerance in people with migraine.
