English

Introduction: Anxiety is one of the most common mental disorders that evokes an unpleasant feeling of unknown danger in the individual. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of a group training package based on cognitive behavioral modification on anxiety in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
Materials and Methods: The present study was a semi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design with a control group and a one-month follow-up. The statistical population consisted of all children aged 10 to 12 years with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder who were referred to counseling centers in Tehran’s 22nd district in 2024 (n=800). Out of which, 30 people were selected as the research sample based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and by convenience method and were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (15 people in either group). The measurement tool in this study was the Spence (1998) Children’s Anxiety Questionnaire. The experimental group underwent 12 sessions (3 sessions per week) of 60 minutes under a training package based on family communication patterns, and the control group did not receive any intervention. Statistical data analysis was performed using two-way repeated measures ANOVA.
Results: The mean and standard deviation of the experimental group’s anxiety scores were 37.93±3.05 in the pre-test and 21.80±5.07 in the post-test, indicating a significant reduction (p<0.001). The results of data analysis showed that after the intervention, the effect of the cognitive behavioral modification training package on children’s anxiety with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder was significant (F=22.897, η=0.450, p<0.001) and these positive effects remained stable during the follow-up period (p<0.001).
Conclusion: Considering the effectiveness of the cognitive behavioral modification training package on children's anxiety, it is recommended that counselors and therapists use this method along with other effective methods to improve anxiety in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
