English

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer and a major cause of death among women. Interventions such as group spirituality therapy may help improve social adjustment and reduce anxiety and depression associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of spirituality therapy in increasing social adjustment and reducing anxiety and depression in women with breast cancer.
Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study used a pretest–posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included women with breast cancer referred to Imam Reza (AS) Hospital in Kermanshah in 2024 (about 87 patients). Forty participants were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received ten 45‑minute sessions, while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using the Bell Social Adjustment Questionnaire (1961), Beck Anxiety Inventory (1988), and Beck Depression Inventory‑II (1972), and analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA).
Results: Analysis of covariance test showed that the effect size of spirituality therapy for improving social adjustment for the five dimensions of social adjustment was 0.36, 0.67, 0.51, 0.47, and 0.501, respectively. (p<0.01). The effect size of spirituality therapy on health and outcome was 0.447 and 0.343, respectively. (p<0.01)
Conclusion: Spirituality therapy can be used as a complementary psychological intervention and aid in treatment alongside medical treatments, in improving mental health indicators and improving the quality of life of women with breast cancer.
